How to Survive the Festive Seasons with Your Precious Little Ones

Survive Holidays Little Ones Web

We all know Christmas and Chinese New Year are just around the corner and there will be so much excitement and gatherings going on…

I am certain you don’t want to be sitting at home and miss out on all the fun…(FOMO is real guys) but you also do not want to ignore your baby’s sleep needs and end up with an overtired and cranky child. You don’t want your child to end up in Santa’s naughty list that’s for sure!

Here are some handy sleep tips for the holidays season to help you have a worry-less Christmas and CNY festivities…

1. Allow your child to nap even on the go

If you are going to be out at your parents’ home or your friend’s home…still try to get your child to nap if possible in the stroller or the carrier. I would still offer naps at the normal nap times for your baby, wherever you may be at the time. Keeping your baby awake for longer than they are supposed to is a recipe for disaster and they will start getting overtired and cranky or too hyperactive to be able to fall asleep easily or stay asleep. Consistency in giving them their naps will help them during these busy and exciting days.

2. Keep the sleep environment as familiar as you can

Always bring your child’s favourite sleeping toys and bring the bedsheet from home to imitate their home sleep environment. It will help them feel more secure in a new sleep environment.

3. If it’s all not working out…

If things are not quite going according as planned, your child is too overtired, cranky and crying incessantly, you may do whatever you need to get your child to sleep. Once you go back to your home or their comfort zone, then you can retrain your child again. Don’t worry, the retraining won’t be as hard as the first time. Tomorrow is a new day and you can start afresh!

4. Take it easy…

If you think it’s tiring for you having so many gatherings and all, it’s even more tiring for your baby. Babies are easily overstimulated and they get overtired when they don’t get enough sleep or rest. Don’t feel bad about taking your baby into a quiet room/place to get them to rest or sleep. They will need some down time and you know what’s best for them.

You need to take it easy too…take time to enjoy this holiday seasons with your family and friends…ask for help if you need a break from your baby. There’s no shame in asking for help. Remember, it takes a village to raise a child.

Have a wonderful and blessed Christmas!
