Some parents report problems with early waking in their infants. While every baby is different, you can try these strategies to help your baby settle back once they’ve woken up.
Keep the lights dim.
Try keeping their room dark all night long. If you have to get up during the night, turn on a small light near the door so as not to disturb them too much and disrupt their sleep cycle.
Use white noise.
White noise, or a constant and consistent sound such as an air conditioner humming or a fan whirring, is a great tool to use when your baby wakes up at night. White noise can help soothe your baby back to sleep by blocking out other noises that might be waking him/her up.
Leave them alone.
As a parent, it can be tempting to check on your child when they wake up too early in the morning. Before you know it, you might find yourself picking them up or soothing them on your own.
Involving yourself with your child early in the morning will only ensure that they continue to wake up early. So try not to go into your child’s room to do in-person checks unless it’s an emergency.
As you try these strategies, be sure to keep in mind that they may take some time to work. Babies don’t always respond quickly to change.
