You’re not alone; there are thousands of other parents out there who are trying to figure out how to get their little one to sleep better. Routines can be very helpful in this aspect, as they provide structure and predictability for your child. A routine can minimise the chances of your child being overtired, making it easier for them to fall asleep at nap time or bedtime.
Follow this simple routine to help your baby get better sleep. This routine also allows you some time-off from caring for your baby so that you can take care of yourself as well!

Eat
Feeding should be the first activity when your child wakes! Your baby will not drink or eat as well before sleep as they are already tired and energy levels are low. Instead of letting your baby feed/nurse to sleep, you want to encourage a full feed when they just wake.
Activities
You can let your little one engage in mat activities after they wake. This will help create more sleep pressure, making it easier for them to fall asleep.
Sleep
When you see any sleepy cues, it is time to put your little one on the cot to fall asleep independently!
Your Time
When your baby is sleeping, you can have your own time!
It’s a special time that’s just for you. Enjoy this time so that when the baby wakes up and needs attention, you don’t feel overwhelmed by the responsibilities of parenting. You cannot pour from an empty cup and it is important to recharge so you can better care for your child!
A simple routine like this is great for babies, so they know what’s coming next and can adjust to the changes in the day easily. Routines help babies learn how to eat, play, interact with others and sleep. They also develop a sense of security because they know when it’s time for a different activity!
